04.07.2009: 1800 UTC: Posn: 14:51.3N – 058:29.8E, Off Oman.
The master of a bulk carrier reported that one small boat attacked the vessel from her stern and fired a RPG at her. Master took evasive action, increased speed and managed to escape. The sea condition at the time of the incident was beaufort scale force 07.

06:07.2009: 1804 UTC: Posn: 22:11N – 091:46E, Chittagong anchorage, Bangladesh.
Duty officer detected some boats near the stern of a container ship at anchor. Crew mustered and saw 15 robbers onboard. A duty watchman was tied up and had been attacked with iron bars. Robbers had stolen ship’s stores and escaped. Master reported to port control.

Robbers gained access onto an anchored bulk carrier via the anchor chain and thru the hawse pipe cover, which had been secured by the crew. They stole ship’s properties and escaped unnoticed.

Armed pirates attacked and hijacked a bulk carrier underway. They are believed to be in control of the bridge and sailing the vessel to an undisclosed location in Somalia. Further details awaited.

12.07.2009: 2336 UTC: Posn: 05:12.5N – 004:03.9W, Abidjan roads, Ivory Coast.
Two robbers armed with long knives boarded an oil tanker via the forecastle. Ship’s stores were stolen. When sighted, robbers escaped in a small boat. No injuries to crew. Master reported to port control.

Robbers boarded a container ship at anchor. They stole ship's stores and properties and escaped.

12.07.2009: 0200 LT: Posn: 01:08.91N – 105:45.11E, Off Raffles lighthouse, Singapore Straits.
Five pirates armed with long knives and swords in a five meter long wooden boat approached a tug towing a barge. Four pirates boarded the tug, and tied up the crew. They stole ship’s properties, crew personal belongings and cash and escaped. No injuries to crew. VTIS and coast guard Singapore informed.

13.07.2009: 0430 UTC: Posn: 12:20.8N – 043:54.3E: Bab el-Mandeb, Gulf of Aden.
Four pirates in a skiff armed automatic weapons chased and opened fire on a tanker underway. The skiff came closer and the pirates tried to hook a ladder onto the shipside. Master made evasive manoeuvres and contacted the warships for help. Due to preventive anti piracy actions, pirates aborted the attempt.

21.07.2009: 0030 LT: Posn: 01:17.94N – 104:09.24E, Off Tanjong Stapa, Malaysia.
Six robbers armed with long knives in a boat came alongside and boarded a product tanker at anchor. The robbers tied up the Master and crew members. They stole ship’s and crew properties. During the incident the Malaysian Marine Police boarded the product tanker and arrested five robbers. One robber jumped overboard and escaped.

23.07.2009: 2015 UTC: 09:58.5N – 083:00.5W: Puerto Limon anchorage, Costa Rica.
Two robbers in a boat boarded a container vessel at anchor. Crew noticed one robber trying to transfer stolen ship’s stores into the boat. The robber escaped with stores by jumping into the water. The ship and crew are safe.

Robbers armed with knives boarded a bulk carrier at anchor. They tied up the watch keepers hands and stole ship’s stores and escaped.

28.07.2009: 2157 LT: Posn: 04:39.2N – 112:45.0E, 75 nm off Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Twelve pirates, in a seven-meter long, unlit boat approached a container ship underway. They chased the ship and tried to get alongside. 3/O raised alarm, took evasive manoeuvres, alerted crewmembers and master fired three rocket flares. Pirates aborted the attempt.
